A New Corner is a temporary bookshop in the old kitchen – now library – of the Van Abbehuis. A wide variety of books created by artists, designers and small publishers is brought together in the improvised, but cosy space, where you can quietly browse and view the books and – if you want – purchase them. Also a small and changing installation combining drawings, printed matter and found objects is presented in the space. A New Corner is initiated by Akiko Wakabayashi and Marijn van Kreij.
Info collection
Van Abbehuis’ book collection is open to the public during opening hours and by appointment. Accompanying the original documents about the space and small collection that was left over the years, artists and collaborators that made were part of Van Abbehuis were invited to add suggestions that fit its infrastructure. The expanding collection includes artist books as well as cook books, scores and blueprints. They reference a history of the visitors of Van Abbehuis, carefully unfolding a shared history of communal space and discourse.
