Volunteers

Van Abbehuis works with volunteers. We continuously look for (new) locals interested in (presenting) contemporary art, hosting events, and guiding cultural visitors through our living room. People with a reliable eye for detail with ambition to learn the ropes of exhibition buildups are also welcome to apply. Contact vrijwilligers@albertvanabbehuis.nl for more information: if you are interested in working as a volunteer at our space, an interview will always follow to see what volunteer role would fit you best. We ask volunteers to sign the Model code of conduct for (voluntary) workers’ as drawn up by the Dutch Volunteer Work Organisations Association (NOV). Apart from expenses and travel reimbursments, volunteers receive a volunteer fee of €5/hour, max €210/month and €2.100/year).

Become a Friend

We invite you to become involved in all activities at Van Abbehuis and join us in forming its program. Located in the center of Eindhoven, our space forms a sanctuary for artistic exchange and dialogue. As a space without a collection, we present artists, projects and programs as they arise throughout the city, engaging in different discourses and fostering where they meet.

As a friend of Van Abbehuis you receive access to previews and guided tours of all exhibitions and first invitations to our workshop and lecture program. Annually, a Vrienden Van-Wednesday drinks is hosted by artists and curators, who give an exclusive insight in the local programming.

Large or small, any donation helps support our programming. You can become a Friend by contributing €30 annually. Every amount helps us keep our doors open and our programs accessible.

Executive producer

Van Abbehuis is a space where exhibitions and public programs are organized. With exhibitions, weekly cafés, open studios, and educational programs, Van Abbehuis has grown into a vibrant meeting place for art and culture in the city. We are looking for a hands-on, energetic executive producer.

As an executive producer, you are the team’s technical and hands-on person. You ensure that exhibitions and activities run smoothly: from discussing practical matters with artists to opening and closing Van Abbehuis. You will work under the supervision of the director alongside the education coordinator, volunteer coordinator, communications coordinator, volunteers, interns, and external creators. 

Deadline: June 1, 2026

  • Setting up and taking down exhibitions and events in collaboration with artists and partners, including installing lighting and audiovisual equipment and assisting with the transport of objects.
  • Performing all tasks related to the execution of public programs and events, as well as rental activities.
  • Maintaining the storage area, managing inventory, tools, and exhibition materials.
  • General maintenance and housekeeping tasks in and around the building.
  • Identifying practical issues during the execution of tasks and providing timely feedback to the team.

Who are you?

  • You’re a team player with strong communication skills, preferably in English as well
  • You’re practical and hands-on, with a background in theater production, set construction, or you’re an all-around handy person
  • You work independently and can identify what needs to be done to get things done efficiently
  • You work accurately and carefully with fragile objects 
  • You are flexible and willing to work occasionally in the evenings or on weekends, with peaks during setup periods 
  • You are reliable and keep your commitments 
  • You have an affinity for art and culture 
  • You live in (the region of) Eindhoven 
  • A driver’s license is a plus
  • Arranging loans from institutions or collectors
  • Providing timely and clear information to all internal stakeholders, including the volunteer coordinator and communications manager
  • Maintaining regular contact and monitoring mutual agreements with external partners such as artists, institutions, lighting and sound technicians, and exhibition builders
  • Working closely with the director: knowledge of or ambition to explore a network with local communities and artists is an advantage

The position of executive producer is for approximately 8 hours per week (0.15 FTE).

Remuneration will be determined in consultation based on knowledge and experience, in accordance with the guidelines for job and salary structures at visual arts presentation institutions. Van Abbehuis is affiliated with De Zaak Nu.
