Het huis en de dingen

Het huis en de dingen

Fenna Koot, Gijs Milius, Peter Morrens, Amel Omar, Dimitri Vangrunderbeek & Hussel Zhu

Opening 28 Apr 2024, 16:00

28 Apr –

26 May 2024

“The work of the artists I collaborate with must be layered on both a personal level and within the context of contemporary visual culture. The presence of an enchanting balance between a personal and specific visual language and a richness of thoughts and ideas is important to me, as well as a universal expression and language (introverted versus extroverted qualities) embodied in the work. The presence of imperfection and flaws in the artwork demonstrates the artist’s courage to remain connected to the world.”

Mieke van Schaijk presented two parallel exhibitions.

Fenna Koot

Fenna Koot is interested in the relationship between people and their built environment. Fascinated by how we design and move though our living space, she questioned the boundary between the private domain indoors and the public outside.

Gijs Milius

Gijs Milius lives and works in Brussels. The idea of encounter and exchange is central to his work. Most of his work consists of drawings, but these are directly linked to his sculptures. Together, they form a setting in which what is present raises specific issues.

Peter Morrens

Peter Morrens is working on a multifaceted oeuvre, comprising of drawings, photographs, installations and performances, through which he gives form to his fascinations for sensuality, the experience of time, sexuality, destruction, fetishism, unrest, rhythm, reversal, and transgression.

Amel Omar

Amel Omar’s practice consists of practicing performative interactions with everyday (architectural) objects, the camera and the user. This results mainly in videoworks, in-situ installations, performances and sculptures.

Dimitri Vangrunderbeek

In his artistic research, Dimitri Vangrunderbeek investigates the transformation of everyday objects into autonomous artworks and explores how such objects might relate to their environment.

Hussel Zhu

Hussel Zhu is a visual artist, researcher, and short story writer, born and raised in a formerly secluded area of Shanghai. Since 2019, he has studied and worked in the Netherlands.
