Performance by Victor Crepsley

1 Apr 2026, 17:00

With a practice based in theatricality and social encounter, Victor Crepsley is clown ‘Crappy’ who welcomes guests at the café door through a minimal set of signs. The figure of the clown appears as both familiar and estranged, while balloons accumulate gradually over the course of the evening, shifting the atmosphere toward a saturated, unstable environment of surface, and affect. Visitors are invited to receive a balloon animal, extending the work through exchange. As the space fills, distinctions between participation and display, presence and performance, remain unresolved.

Victor Crepsley

Victor Crepsley is the alter ego of artist Jason Dolman. Dolman grew up bilingual as the son of a Dutch father and a Scottish mother and traveled the world as a child. For instance, he saw the replica of the Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas before he visited the original monument in Paris. That experience marked an early confrontation with questions that remain central to his work: what is “real” and what is “fake”? With exaggeration, humor, and a healthy dose of irony, Dolman critiques contemporary visual culture, in which authenticity and imitation are constantly intertwined. In his work, Dolman plays with identity, a theme that is clearly evident in his alter ego Victor Crepsley. Through this character, he explores how identity can be constructed and staged. Crepsley manifests himself not only in visual art but also in performative actions and theatrical appearances. He does everything just a little differently: bolder, more exuberant, and more theatrical than Dolman himself. In Crepsley’s universe, an exaggerated, almost surreal world emerges in which neon colors, plastic, and candy converge into a disposable paradise.
