Hydra presents work by Phil Procter, Earnest Studio (Rachel Griffin), and Tom Chung, positioning their work against each other in a large-scale architectural manner.
Pressed together, supporting, and overlapping, the pieces created for this exhibition contain a shared modular language that has come to define each of their practices. By acting in synchrony and expressing themselves through this shared formal language, the three have become a single three-headed speaker. One body with three heads that speak, a body larger than all three were before they became one, with three heads forming sentences between them.
The exhibition will further occupy Van Abbehuis with a selection of books, short films, and sounds, curated and created by a selection of invited artists. Three distinct spaces that respond to the exhibition’s themes and further contextualize the on-display design.

Tom Chung is an industrial designer based in Rotterdam, born and raised in Vancouver. It was here that he saw a common attitude towards design, people only desired products that were practical, without unnecessary additions.
Earnest Studio was founded by American-born, Rotterdam-based designer Rachel Griffin. With a background in graphic design, she spent five years producing exhibitions and books before moving to the Netherlands to study at the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2007.
Phil Procter is a Rotterdam-based design practice working at the intersection of objects and spatial design.
