The Art of Making Architecture

The Art of Making Architecture

Ralph Brodrück, Wouter Hilhorst, Hyukjin Kang, Renato Kindt, Jan Schevers, Rob Voerman & Hans Wilschut

Opening 18 Jun 2022, 16:00

18 Jun –

17 Jul 2022

In the intermediate space between architecture and visual art, the boundaries between disciplines are not fixed but tested and shifted.

Rob Voerman and Hans Wilschut enter into dialogue with Eindhoven-based architects: Ralph Brodrück & Renato Kindt, Jan Schevers, and Wouter Hilhorst & Hyukjin Kang. The presentation is realized in collaboration with the Eindhoven University of Technology, with the participation of 55 master’s students in architecture.

The projects do not start from a fixed distinction between thinking and making. What becomes visible emerges from the convergence of analysis and experimentation: the conceptual approach of the engineer and the intuitive working method of the artist meet in material research and scale studies. Meaning here does not reside in the objects or structures themselves, but arises in the relationship formed with them, through use, perception, and displacement. The exhibition creates the conditions in which these relationships can take shape.

Wouter Hilhorst (Rotterdam) is an architect and also a lecturer at the Faculty of the Built Environment at Eindhoven University of Technology and at the ArtEZ Academy of Architecture.

Renato Kindt & Jan Schevers
