Vasilis Kapetaneas proposes in his practice mourning as a catalyst of creation. Whales sink to the bottom of the ocean and sustain ecosystems. Medieval monks scraped old parchments, creating a solid surface to write upon. The loss of his grandfather inspired Kapetaneas to create something through his memory; a collective evening workshop with food from his homeland.
During this workshop, you will write a letter addressing some thing or some one that you have lost. After that you will be asked to let go of your letter, recreating a moment of release, but through that termination a new handmade sheet of paper is regurgitate. After this, Kapetaneas will cook for and with you, one of his late grandfather’s favorite Greek dishes: Fasolada. A modest bean soup.
