For one month, Van Abbehuis has run like a small factory: paper has been assembled, stitched, glued and cut, with a rotating cast of hands repeating the same movements on different days.
Feeding on the collective’s extensive archive of prints, collages, drawings and collected texts, the resulting books are now on display, open to browse and investigate.
The finissage is the last shift. The last chance to see all the books together before they are dispersed and find new homes. What happens next will be harder to track. The books might be used as musical scores in a performance at the neighbouring Van Abbemuseum, or you might encounter some of them at communal garden Sprankenhof in Udenhout, where the collective is heading next.
Surely, the archive will keep rewriting itself, as everything the collective does is never bound to stay finished.
Join us to investigate and examine what has been produced. Together, we might spontaneously read from the books, or discuss what they might become once they leave the exhibition space and enter the big, wide world.
it is part of an ensemble is een interdisciplinair kunstenaarscollectief dat bestaat uit een wisselende groep kunstenaars, performers, schrijvers, muzikanten, denkers en makers. Het collectief onderzoekt hoe samenwerking, collectiviteit en gedeeld auteurschap vorm kunnen krijgen voorbij vaste rollen, hiërarchieën en identiteiten. Vanuit een praktijk van improvisatie, uitwisseling en wederzijdse beïnvloeding ontstaan performances, films, publicaties, tentoonstellingen en andere tijdelijke constellaties. Centraal staat het idee van het ensemble: een meerstemmige gemeenschap waarin verschillen, tegenstrijdigheden en uiteenlopende perspectieven niet worden gladgestreken, maar juist productief worden gemaakt.
