Reality Check

Opening 8 Sep 2024, 16:00

8 Sep –

6 Oct 2024

In Reality Check, drawing is presented as a form of slowing down within accelerating, fluid streams of communication, in which subjectivity itself becomes an unstable terrain. A hybrid field of drawings and text works, emphasizing multilingualism, highlights the fragmentation of experience, while simultaneously opening a space for a form of connection that does not dissolve difference, but allows it to exist. The question of whether we can truly “hear the other” is explored in the tension between closeness and unbridgeability. In all her work, she probes the extent to which certain facets of the current context influence the individual, and how (im)possible responsibility is within that constantly shifting dynamic.

The collaboration with Varia, a seamstress near Kharkiv, has been developing since 2012 as an investigation in which personal and geopolitical dimensions intersect, exploring how friendship transforms under the Russian invasion. Also featured is De Grot, the artist’s literary dance performance in collaboration with musician and teacher Otto Donkers.
