Karin van Dam focuses on searching and finding, which for her is synonymous with discovering and collecting materials. “The fluffy ball, the hanging thread. Sometimes they are stored within my field of vision as possible building blocks.”
In the sketch phase, Karin van Dam uses both found objects and drawings. Her drawings and sculptures function as temporary condensations within an ongoing process; they stand on their own, yet at the same time carry the potential to grow into installations. Her work is constantly in motion. Each object is a continuation of earlier work and forms a bridge to what comes next.

Karin van Dam (1959, Eindhoven) studied at the Royal Academy of Art and Design, ’s-Hertogenbosch. From 2006 to the present, she has been a lecturer at ArtEZ in Arnhem and a guest lecturer at various art academies in the Netherlands. She has exhibited her work at home and abroad, including in De Compagnie, Veghel (2024); Un Monde Verticale (zone de silence), Abbaye de Maubuisson, Saint-Ouen-L’Aumône, FR, with Tanja Smeets; and Drawn from Water, Museum THE REACH, Abbotsford CA (both 2023); De Onderstroom, Museum Rijswijk, with Robbie Cornelissen; Vloedlagen van de Zeereep IV, De Vishal, Haarlem; and Kerkmeester in the Grote Kerk, Veere (all 2022); To dwell in pitch black pearls at University of Lethbridge Art Gallery, CA; and Kantelpunt 1, Cacaofabriek, Helmond, with Robbie Cornelissen (both 2017). Her work is included in various museum collections, including the Teylers Museum in Haarlem, the Tilburg Textielmuseum, Kunstmuseum The Hague, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam and the Centraal Museum in Utrecht.
