Making is Thinking

Making is Thinking

AnArchi & the students of the Faculty of Architecture at TU/e

Opening 31 Aug 2025, 16:00

31 Aug –

28 Sep 2025

Making is Thinking was curated by students of the Faculty of Architecture at TU Eindhoven, in collaboration with the architecture association AnArchi. The exhibition showed how drawing, model-making, and material experimentation are not merely tools of representation, but fundamental instruments of design.

Making is Thinking centered on the close relationship between thinking and doing. At a time when education and work are increasingly focused on abstract knowledge, the exhibition served as a reminder that ideas are also shaped by the hands through drawing, building, testing, and reflecting.

Students demonstrate how design emerges in the tension between mind and hand, between material and scale. Inspired by Juhani Pallasmaa’s concept of “the thinking hand,” the exhibition shows how embodied intelligence and material engagement are essential to architectural thinking. By approaching making as a critical and speculative practice, the students question existing models of knowledge, labor, and production.
