Guest curators Teo Re and Sheyang Li return to Van Abbehuis during Dutch Design Week, this time in collaboration with Korean curator Meeseek. OOT brings contemporary objects into Eindhoven’s former courthouse, once designed to exert authority. In rooms where judges, witnesses, and defendants once sat, the architecture dictates the degree of respect that is commanded.
The waiting room holds the visitor in the moment preceding the hearing. The conference room displays test pieces, leftover materials, and experiments as evidence. In the courtroom, contemporary objects take the place of the original furniture and suggest the roles of judge, witness, or defendant. OOT invites visitors into an environment in which both the objects and the surroundings determine how authority is conferred.
